There is never a typical day in the life of a college counselor. Many times you may never know what is going to happen that day and who is going to come into the office for which reasons. These reasons could vary from substance abuse to current suicidal thoughts. During a day that is spent in client visits, a college counselor meets an average of 5 to 6 clients a day and then spends time documenting each of these visits. For the counselors that were interviewed from SFA they said that they also spend quite a bit of time in presenting to classes and departments. There is also always the chance that they may be called upon after hours to help a client or to help out if there is an emergency on campus. An example of this would be when Hurricane Ike came through Nacogdoches and counselors were called to help assist in the call center to help talk to parents who might be worried about their students or to help students who may have been worried about the upcoming storm.
